An Italian meal is not complete without fresh fruits and it's the couse before the dessert. What's in season is usually the choice because the flavor and the taste are at their best.
There are some fruits that cannot be produced out of season despite the new and improved methods developed by growers.
Amarena is one fruit I have never seen out of season. Perhaps because this small, tart, dark red cherry is not so prominently used fresh. It is preserved in different ways and used in baking and marmalades and such.
